On Tuesday January 16, 2018 at approximately 9:58 p.m., DPS dispatched Highway Patrol to a report of an auto-pedestrian accident in front of Gold Beach Hotel, in Garapan.

Once on scene, officers observed a 22 year-old Chuukese male unconscious on the road. Investigation into the accident revealed the pedestrian, who was intoxicated, caused a disturbance inside Gold Beach Hotel before walking out onto the highway. He was not in a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a 61 year-old Filipino male, driving a 2007 Mazda sedan. The driver, who was not intoxicated or speeding at the time of the accident, had full face dark tint on the front
windshield. The tint, dark clothing of the pedestrian, and limited street lighting were contributing factors however; investigators determined the pedestrian was at fault for the accident, and the driver will not face charges.

The pedestrian was transported to CHCC Emergency Room and admitted for further observation.
